Philosophy

Behind Merendine Atomiche, now Merendine, we can find a clear philoshopy that was part of the band’s way of life for all the 17 years of rock they played around the world. They are not only a simple band that play rock, but is a band that play rock trying to say something to all the fans who want to listen their music.
Years passed and the more things changed but never the idea behind the band’s behaviour, words and way to move in life.
Each album explain a part of the Merendine Philosophy that change and modified during their growth. The way to manage the band, the way to play live, the way to talk with fans and also the name of the band is a part of their P.

Merendine had and have always as a main target in their music carrer to say something about the world we live, in a way that can, with music, explain the emotions they had; with lyrics, the way they think and what they wanna say; with behavioir, the way to make it possible during the dialy life.

A few words explain this philosophy: respect for all humans, honesty in everything you do and in everything you think, meritocracy based on real skills of each one of us, culture and knowledge to be always informed about what happens and happened in the world and the ways to try to change it in case something went wrong.

As today daylife those few words are really kind of utopia. The actual world in all their arms are simply a daily theater where each one of us is forced to follow a part and act. The best ones usually are forced to moved away and go around to find the right place where live, the worst ones dominate the rest of the world. The people between, the powerful force that can change the balance are in an eternal fight for themselves often going to support the worst ones to try to get what worst have (In the Western World). The few ones in between who support the good part has the same destiny of the great ones.

So those simple words become the opposite:

Respect: few men still follow this simple word. Today the most of people try to get as much as they can for themselves, beeing very selfish and egocentric. In this way respect is a word that can’t take place on their dictionary. The most important thing for them is theirselves, to appear, to be someone, to be in television or in a newspaper. The way they use to appear doesen’t matter. If they have to burn this world, they do, just to feel a “king” for a couples of minutes. Disrespect and selfish people are now everywhere.

Honesty: good word in a kind of tales book. Daily life show how people for its interest try to do whatever to get their targets and who cares to be honest? Now the rule is “be smart” that simpley is a cover to say “fuck who you want for your interest, this is the game” and no more “do the best to accomplish your dream and be happy on what you can get”. When you stay with people, you never known if he or she is saying the truth cause everybody try to cheat the other for its interests. Friendship is simply gone, love is a kind of historic word, so honesty, that is the base of all human relations disappear for it s opposite: cheat when you can, smile and say always “No I did not” hopefully accusing the others. The world become a theater where the worst one are the main actors who tried always to justified theirself for their behaviours.

Meritocracy: we grown thinking that the most you work, the most you get. Bullshit. The daily world is simply a jungle where the stronger wins. Very few times the bravest or the good ones prevail in any aspect of life. Jobs, University, Politics, Burocracy everything is the best example of nepotism, the best way where help friends and people who can get you an advantage in some way. “You do nothing for nothing” is the motto. If you don’t have a friend you can’t go anywhere, if you don’t have enough money sometimes you can’t have whatever others had, but the worst thing is that the system don’t want to give the right opportunities to everybody. So meritrocracy is completely destroyed by a world that acclaim its fair but that beyond the curtains is the worst dictator ever born. only the worst can clinch the real power, and people to try to have the same, do the same. In this way we lost the opportunity to improve as mankind leaving the great ones forced to fight against the wind and making this world always poorest than before, where the lessons of history is simply deleted building the base for the same old mistakes who can just bring suffering, wars and pain.

Culture and Knowledge: dinosor words. Everybody says “who cares”? and this is the most monumental mistake people can do cause they give the opportunity to sign forever to be a complete slave of the system , of superstictions, of religions and whatever help few people dominate the entire World. and remember, they studied…! we shall do the same to balance their power.

Merendine obviously are not the ones who have the truth. Knowledge is always in shape, and we have always something to learn so this is our way of think but this not means we stop to study, to investigate the world, to listen to people who think other things, to try to say something with music and lyrics and to support all people who have the courage to fight for a better world.

Merendine are not just sex beers and rock n roll but much more, that’s why we want you to join the brotherhood and join our philosophy!

here is the meaning of each album where their inner philosophy is explained by Luca (drums), former member of the band:

“The Holy Metal “ – 2000 – mini disc album

This is an hymn to heavy metal and the power it has to let the people scream their frustration for the situation of the world. Many use Heavy Metal for their personal problems and many use them to have a life of rock stars, other use it to accuse the headbangers for the evil that is inside the world. For us heavy metal and “the Holy metal” is a way to scream its power and to say thanks to a genre of music that want to be indipendent and free, free to say what we think. Having wrote it during our 20es is really a young and rebel album with some kind of youth problems, some hymns to heavy metal and attacks religions who often teach us the “right way” to live and then, with their rapresentants, are the first to committ “sins” and mistakes. It is a clear start of our philosophy.

“Walk across fire” – 2002 – first full lenght album

That’s made during our mid 20es. An album that underline the problem of meritocracy completely deleted from the world. The system proclaim it self the most democrat of the world, the truth is the opposite. With a mask of beautiful things sell yourself buying people with some material stuff and reign.
We tried to push the young generations to stop to listen them and to be complete under their knees but starting to think with their head, tryng to ask some questions, to ask something to theirselves, to try to improve as human and to live real free and indipendent. “Blood for glory” support the dreams of each one of us and support the idea to follow them with honesty. Better second honestly than first rubbing!
“Walk across fire” is an hymn to all the ones of fight in life for any kind of problem, to the real braves of this world. “The spirit of wolf” support the best ones who did their best to try to improve as people and as citizens but still be not in the right place and with the right …friends… “Revenge” is a clear spit of anger against the system and “Victory over the enemies” is another way to try to improve. “Walk across fire” is clear an album that put down the basement of Merendine philosophy.

“Raw” – 2005 – full lenght album

“Raw” is more a light album in a period where the band didn’t want to push to much on important things but this not means that we avoided to try to say something. The title “Raw” is clear. Guys that are not in the mood to say bullshit or to just smile and try to get money to throw them on the garbage just to have some chicks or just to have some people around. Merendine never lost their freshness and their believe on their philosophy, always beeing down to earth continuing to play and write against the main stream and the prejudice of the people. we are “raw” that means always searching to know more to improve as persons and as musicians. “Raw”, the song rapresent this 100%, but also “Peace means war?” is a doubt that born in the band during the first years after the collapse of the twin towers, “I want to be a man” is a very intense song. At the end a lighter album with their meanings because life can’t always be a “fight” but must always be a research of happiness but always, and I say always, respecting the others and doing this with honesty.

“Rude Rebel brotherhood” – 2007 full lenght album

This can be the follow one of “Walk across fire” for lyrics and philosophy, follow “Raw” as a power sound. Talking about philosophy Merendine explore again the power of friendship and the power of respect, honesty, integrity and meritocracy. The album is dedicate to friendship, so the brotherhood but not a normal brotherhood but one that can be a strong one, based on real feelings and who support a way of life that follow the words wrote above. So we have strong songs that still fight for our thinks like “Helmet”…”…hard as an helmet…”, “Hope” in a more lighter way but with the same meaning, running with an exploding energy like in “Rude Rebel Brotherhood” . But this time not only those words but also to support the idea that study is a very important way to learn, to improve and to know how things going so lyrics like “Igorance” underline how the world is so ingnorant and proud to be it. They are so scared to change something in their life that they prefer to accuse the entire world rather than read a couples of pages to inform themselves on what can be possible or not. if you smile reading this, just think if hunderd years ago the Inquisition wasn’t stopped by the science, you sure not smile now. We underline in other songs like “Captain Venice” and “The Rise of the lion” the power of History. Known history teach the real things and not always the things that somebody wants you to know. Asking to yourself “why”, and have the sense of discover is so important and these songs push on this things. They also support the cause of our land. We close the album with some lyrics against the continue destroy of the green in our land just because they can and always for dirty money. So “NO I Can’t” is against this way of think. A very verious but important disc who says things as they are with friendship in front.

“New World Disorder” – 2012 – full lenght album

Long time since the last album but “New World Disorder” is the most complete album of the band in all aspects. Lyrics rapresent the top of the Merendine philosophy. The eternal fight with ourselves and the so called fight for a change in the World. “New World Disorder” is a powerful album without the lead guitar for the first time in ten years. Not something less, but something more, cause the band can exploited its way of think and way of play in the best mood possible in a period around the world of really huge troubles. An album that attack the system, the way it is built and the false philantrophy we found behind its mask. What we saw is a world in war for energies, destroying people and hopes all around the world to continue consume and abuse all earth resources. There is no way out than kill, conquer and destroy just to be able to mantain our privileges. We don’t think this is the right way to live and that’s why we go against the famous “New World Order”. Who call themselves “order” is at least the worst chaos possible. They want to bring us chaos where then dominate. So the band answer with a “disorder” where people have not to fight in the classical way, but must to start from theirselves, to look inside and find who everyone of us are. Are we what the system want? Are we simple puppets? Are we real what we think we are? Or are we simply living a life with a role that society threw in our face and let us believe that, that is the only way to live? Can we see different view to live? Can somebody in the past teach us something? We think so. The answer is there, we can grab it and change the world and it is not “fighting” the power but looking inside ourselves. If we start first, the dominant power will surrender faster than you can think, so “New World disorder” go through all these aspects talking about power, the hidden hands, the real masters of pupptes or supposed masters, but go also deep inside ourselves asking if, as people, have some guilty and if yes, how can we fix it to improve this world. Is clear that we can’t turn our face in the other side, we shall think to act starting from ourselves to give to the future generations a world where human beeing can live for the reason is always been: free and indipendent.
